Some books make their case almost immediately. Creatures & Corridors is one of those.

The setup is appealing on its own: five sophomores, one dangerous role-playing game, and a summer that turns from ordinary to alarming with very little warning. What works for me is how neatly the book balances recognizability and invention. You understand the kids, the room, the energy at the table, and then suddenly the walls of that world do not feel dependable anymore.

Brandon Auman knows how to build a readable comic. The pages move. The reveals arrive at the right moments. The fantasy imagery is lively without becoming muddy, and the emotional stakes stay clear even as the situation grows stranger. That matters in a premise like this. If the story gets too cluttered, the tension evaporates. Here, it holds.

I can easily picture recommending this to readers who like horror concepts but still want a book with heart and a strong sense of fun. It has enough darkness to feel exciting and enough personality to keep the experience from turning grim.
