Ami is determined to return stolen artifacts to the country they belong, no matter how dangerous it will be to get those artifacts into her possession. Edmond hasn’t been back to England in years, preferring to be in India where gossip and scandal can’t reach him, but now he’s home, and he’s in dire need of an Egyptologist to value artifacts. The last thing he expects is to meet Ami and offer her the job. But trouble is around the corner with unexpected guests, a cursed griffin, and a romance neither expect nor even want.
The romantic part of Of Gold and Shadows is predictable: a girl meets a guy, they fall in love, and he’s engaged, but of course, that’s a misunderstanding, and they all live happily ever after. Overall, it was cute, but it was just not my thing. The characters are all a little Mary Sue. Ami is headstrong, doesn’t care about others’ options, and doesn’t have a lick of fashion sense. Edmond is tall and handsome, and every girl wants him. The end was a twist; the hints were dropped, and I enjoyed the mystery until the final reveal, where I was left wondering where it came from.
